French Jews moving to Israel face a more structured reception this year than in previous decades. The Aliyah and Integration Ministry has begun coordinating job placements before candidates land, a shift driven by a sharp increase in migration numbers. Approximately 3,400 French Jews immigrated in 2025, but more than 4,000 have arrived in 2026. This represents a nearly 50 percent rise compared to the same period last year, a volume that rivals the expected 4,000 immigrants from North America this year.

The ministry director-general, Dganit Sankar-Langa, stated that officials are preparing for potential French capital controls that could restrict the transfer of savings. She noted that post-election decisions in France might create financial hurdles for those moving their assets to Israel. This preparation occurs as France faces an economic crisis, a factor officials say drives immigration interest just as much as antisemitism.

Recent aliyah fairs in Paris, Marseille, and Lyon underscored the momentum. Over 600 households attended the Paris event, representing about 2,000 individuals. Ministry data indicates that 90 percent of attendees expressed a desire to immigrate immediately or by 2027. Sankar-Langa described the attendees as having clear timelines and specific logistical questions, rather than tentative inquiries.

Community members describe a changing social climate in France. Roni, a 75-year-old Paris resident, said that speaking Hebrew or mentioning Israeli military service is now often met with negativity. He noted that many Jews are avoiding kippahs even on religious holidays. Political polarization has left community members feeling caught between the nationalist right and the radical left. Roni and his wife have purchased an apartment in Herzliya, and he observes a growing French presence in local shops and cafes.

Employment companies including Israel Aerospace Industries, Elbit Systems, and Bank Mizrahi-Tefahot participated in the Paris fair for the first time. Representatives met with approximately 200 prospective immigrants and identified over 50 as suitable for available positions. Advanced interviews were conducted with some candidates the next day. The ministry aims to fill shortages in engineering, medicine, education, and artificial intelligence.

New immigrant communities are forming in Nahariya, Afula, Hadera, and the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood of Haifa, in addition to traditional destinations like Netanya and Tel Aviv. In Or Akiva, approximately 200 French immigrants have settled in recent years. These networks help newcomers navigate integration while preserving cultural heritage.

Aliyah and Integration Minister Ofir Sofer stated that immigration from France is at its highest level in years. He emphasized that bringing major companies to France is based on the understanding that quality employment is key to successful integration. The Prime Minister has instructed officials to formulate a dedicated government plan to support this immigration. The ministry distinguishes this planned, large-scale integration from the emergency response seen during the Russia-Ukraine war.
