Lucie Kon, an Oscar and Emmy-winning producer, has received a settlement of more than £400,000 from the BBC. The payout resolves unfair dismissal proceedings brought by Kon, who was made redundant in April 2026. The corporation agreed to the payment without admitting liability and did not apologize.

Kon alleges her professional standing deteriorated after the October 7 attacks in Israel. She claims a colleague told her on WhatsApp that "Zionists" were evil while acknowledging Hamas were evil. Later, when Kon advocated for staff to describe Hamas as committing acts of terror, she said another colleague insisted she must also refer to Israel as a terrorist state to remain balanced.

Following these exchanges, Kon helped establish an internal WhatsApp group for Jewish employees and wrote to then-Director General Tim Davie. She subsequently proposed producing a film about the events of October 7. Kon states her manager later told her the project would proceed only if it contextualized why Hamas acted, a requirement she rejected as she intended the film to be a straightforward account of the day. Her manager's manager informed her she could no longer oversee the film, citing her partiality because she is Jewish.

Kon raised a formal grievance, which the BBC did not uphold. During the appeal process, the corporation restricted her ability to travel, commission, or speak on behalf of the broadcaster. By December, she took stress-related sick leave. Upon her return, she applied for a newly created role but was rejected and made redundant.

A BBC spokesperson stated that the corporation's processes did not uphold any of Kon's allegations of antisemitism. The statement noted that the outcome acknowledged shortcomings and the personal impact on Kon, describing her as a valued member of staff with many years of dedicated service.

Kon, who previously worked on Panorama, Today, BBC Breakfast, and Storyville, told The Telegraph that other Jewish colleagues continue to face bullying. She described the shift in her role, saying, "I went from being a journalist and commissioner at the BBC who was Jewish to being a Jewish journalist at the BBC." She added that she believes she lost her job because she made too much noise about her identity.
